Today was the start of a unique challenge
aimed at school that support children with special educational
needs. All this week an expected 2,000 children and young
people from 90+ schools are expected to take part in a weeklong
event held at Neath’s Gnoll Country Park.
This year’s annual schools challenge
is taking place from Monday 13th to Friday 17th June where
schools from Neath and Port Talbot , Swansea, Bridgend and
Carmarthenshire have been invited to participate in this unique
team challenges that are specifically designed to enable children
and young people with special educational needs to compete
for their school along with their mainstream peers.
Young people
will be able to develop confidence, leadership skills, self
esteem and team building skills as well as having fun and getting
very wet and muddy.
This annual event which is now in its 21st
year is organised by the Local Aid Swansea based registered
charity( 1104585) who were awarded the MBE fir voluntary services
last year and is run in partnership with a number of organisations
including ABM University NHS trust physio and occupational
therapy teams, Police service, Fire service, Princes trust,
National Probation service, plus many local businesses.
Projects
Manager for Local Aid Amanda Lervy, said:
"Children of
all abilities can take part. They’ll interact and compete
together, something that some would not normally have the chance
to do”. “The determination of the young people
with disabilities is inspirational to all children.
